The day

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 On the way to hockey this morning, didn't I run over a bird?  I was going slowly through the Experimental Farm about 6:30, with some guy crowding me behind.  This pigeon comes wandering across the road from my right, and I am thinking, ‘Ha ha, playing chicken with cars is as good as strong coffee in the morning, isn't it?’  But he did not fly away, but instead went under the car. I heard a thump underneath and I saw him flying away in the rear view mirror.  I felt mildly guilty for not slowing down, but this is how they do, right? They go stunting to test you before they fly away. And I was going slowly.  By the time braking would have made any possible difference, he was under, and the guy behind would certainly have smacked me.  Then, at hockey, towards the end of the game, doesn't this guy take a concussion?  He was really hearing bells, I tell you this.  He didn't convulse, which I remember vividly watching a guy do in a high school push-ball incident, but he did the usual 'wha', where am I?' stuff and Bambi’d off the ice with a couple of guys helping him – one a dentist, the other a paramedic instructor.  So, two things happened before breakfast.
